Villagers in Chikwawa Nkombedzi Constituency are rejoicing as Member of Parliament Abida Mia who is also Water and Sanitation Minister has initiated the drilling of boreholes in several villages in the area. Thanks to funding from Malawi Relief Fund-UK, over five village heads are seeing the long-awaited access to clean water becoming a reality.Previously, villagers had to travel long distances to fetch portable water, but now villages such as Tchuzi, Malikopo, Vulande, Chisaka, Paiva 2, and Saindi are benefiting from the borehole drilling project.Leo Mkhuwala, the Personal Assistant for Abida Mia, revealed that the cost of drilling five boreholes is estimated to be over 30 billion kwacha. Mia has already successfully drilled 90 boreholes in the area, providing clean water to the residents. Additionally, over 100 boreholes have been rehabilitated using funds from the Water Fund and generous donations from supporters.
