President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will tomorrow travel to the Roman Capital, Vatican, before undertaking another official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Chakwera depart for Vatican on Sunday, August 18, 2024, through Robert Mugabe International Airport in Zimbabwe where he has been undertaking official engagements with his Zimbabwean counterpart – President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

During the visit to the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, the Malawi leader is expected to hold discussions with His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence Pietro Parollin, Cardinal Secretary of the State of Vatican City.

“His Excellency the President is also expected to engage officials from the German Government, business executives from the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce, and officials from Germany Shipping Company on prospective invesetments in the development of modern vessels for Lake Malawi,” reads the statement in part.

Chakwera is expected to return home at a date to be announced later, according to the statement.
