President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, have contradicted each other on the progress of the investigations into the plane crash on June 10, 2024.
The tragic accident killed Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others.
While in Germany, President Chakwera told Deutsche Welle (DW) in an exclusive interview that the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft, which was engaged to carry out the investigation, had submitted the report to the Government of Malawi.
In the video clip that has gone viral on social media, President Chakwera said his government was making necessary measures to ensure that only those directly concerned with the matter should be informed about the contents of the report.
But Kunkuyu, in a statement issued on Monday, contradicted the Head of State as he said only verbal communication was made.
His response seems to corroborate what the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft said in response to a questionnaire from Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
The bureau told ZBS reporter Vanani Nyirenda that it has not yet published its interim report on the plane crash.
The BFU Head of Press and Public Relations, Germout Freitag, said this in response to our questionnaire today, following a viral video clip where President
He said the report has not been submitted to anyone as work is still in progress and it will take a few days to finalize and release it to the general public.
But in the National Assembly on Monday, Leader of Opposition George Chaponda pressed President Chakwera and his government to release the report, stressing that Malawians deserve to know what led to the accident.
