Head of the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa, has challenged that change will never come unless eligible Malawians register with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in order for them to elect a leader of their choice in the September 2025 General Elections.4
Msusa made the remarks following reports that people are not registering in large numbers, warning that staying away from the vote gives room for the extension of undesired leadership.
He made the sentiments at Bvumbwe Parish in Thyolo during celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the parish and confirmation of new Catholics.
“We have General Elections next year. It’s our birthright to register and vote for leaders of our choice. Let us not just sit idle and complain; if you want change, we have to go and vote next year,” said Msusa.
He said it was sad that Malawians’ lamentations about rising cost of living and farm inputs have fallen on deaf ears.
At this point, the archbishop challenged young men and women with capacity to vie for various positions in the polls.
“Those of you who feel you have the capacity to lead, please come out and declare your interest to run. Osaopa, osafooka, osatopa!” he challenged.
Meanwhile, registration of eligible voters is underway in selected districts, which were chosen in the first phase of the exercise.
