Kenya’s opposition Wiper Democratic Party has expelled its deputy leader and Daadab Member of Parliament (MP) Farah Maalim over recent utterances of defending President William Ruto’s administration.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed that Maalim has been expelled for going against the party’s principles of democracy and justice.
Kalonzo who is a co-principal of the opposition coalition outfit Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance accused Maalim of violating the Constitution and the rights of Kenyans.
“We have expelled him from the party. The people’s loyal opposition will not sit back and allow this disgraceful attempt to take us back into the dark days of fear and oppression,” he said at a press briefing at the SKM Command Centre on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025.
Maalim is among leaders who recently made statements claiming that President William Ruto will get a second term through the ballot box or any other means.
He insulted government opponents while defending the president and used unprintable expletives.
In July 2024, Maalim was summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) after making controversial remarks on anti-government protests, asserting that if he were the president, he would have killed 5,000 Gen Zs daily for participating in what he described as an attempt to overthrow a legitimate government.
Following the summons, Wiper had declared total war on its deputy party leader with the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) calling for de-whipping of the MP from all leadership posts in Parliament, including the speaker’s panel.
