Kenya’s national U17 Women’s football team Junior Starlets edged out Uganda 2-0 during their first leg, FIFA U17 World Cup qualifier played away on Saturday at Nakivubo Stadium, Kampala.
Ednah Nasipwondi fired Kenya into the lead from close range before Joan Ogola doubled Kenya’s lead in the added minutes of the first half unleashing a powerful left foot strike.
Kenya held onto the win the first leg ahead of the second leg scheduled 16th March in Nairobi.
The Junior Starlets advanced directly to the second round after receiving a bye, while Uganda secured their place by defeating Namibia 18-1 on aggregate in the first round.
The aggregate winner of this tie will progress to the third round, where they will face either Cameroon or Ethiopia.
The top four teams from the final qualification round will join hosts Morocco in the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place from the 17th of October to the 8th of November this year.
