A section of youth allied with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has issued a stern warning to a group of Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs), accusing them of undermining the county assembly’s leadership.
The youth group claims that a faction, allegedly led by South C MCA Abbas Khalif, is using the threat of a motion to impeach Governor Johnson Sakaja as a pretext to seize key leadership positions within the assembly. Other MCAs named in the alleged scheme are Nixon Okwacho of Eastleigh South and Oscar Lore of Mathare North.
According to the youth, these MCAs are “power-hungry” and have been “drumming up support to take over leadership” under the guise of protecting Governor Sakaja.
Marvin Otieno, a youth leader from Mathare, criticized the group, stating, “We know the scheme. These three are clueless on matters of legislation. They have abandoned their mandate and are busy going around bribing those close to Raila so that they can be given seats.”
He added that the group is attempting to use the “impeachment confusion to get occupied seats,” warning, “enough is enough, and we shall come for them.”
Sources indicate that the three MCAs are allegedly targeting specific roles: Khalif for the Majority Leader position, Okwacho for the Budget Committee Chairman, and Lore for the Whip.
In their statement, the youth also urged all MCAs to remain focused on delivering services to the public as instructed by ODM party leader Raila Odinga. They reiterated that the MCAs should proceed with an impeachment motion against the governor if he fails to address the “mess” in the county as previously directed.
