Malawi Congress Party candidate Stewart Mwase takes early lead in Mwansa ward by-electionsUnofficial results from today’s by-elections in Mwansa ward in Mangochi show that Malawi Congress Party candidate Stewart Mwase is leading with 1073 votes.

Following closely behind is Kida Adamu for the Democratic Progressive Party with 493 votes.

Dickson Mbwana Assamu for the United Democratic Front is currently in third place with 476 votes, while Lynah Bridget Ted for the People’s Development Party is in fourth with 57 votes.

Andalason Madi, representing the Umodzi Party, has 17 votes.Mwase’s strong showing comes as the ward had one polling center and four polling stations with 3797 registered voters.

Of these, 2139 voters participated in the by-election, with 23 null and void votes recorded. The final official results are still pending.
