A cross section of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) delegates and stakeholders in various counties have called out presidential candidate Hussein Mohammed for using County governors in coercion to force then vote for him in the forth coming FKF elections.
According to county delegates who spoke to Kenya Online News, Hussein after realizing that he has no chance of winning,he has resorted to going through governors to force them into voting for him in the elections.
“Hussein should come to us and convince us to give him our votes. He is trying to use governors to force branch officials and clubs in the county to vote for him,” a county chairman said.
Hussein is alleged to have had conversation with two Governors from Nyanza, two from Western, three from Rift Valley, two from the Coast region as well as cabinet secretaries in ministries that run clubs in government institutions.
He reportedly targets recently elected officials and club officials from the regions in target.
“He is doing all this and yet, he keeps loosing his support base as the delegates who were originally supporting him wonder how he fails to convince other delegates to his side and turns to coercion while even the county government officials he is using to help him don’t support football activities in their regions.
Kisumu county Sports County Executive Commitee member Beatrice Odongo has been called out for harassing club officials in the county into supporting Hussein while the clubs claim she, in her capacity as Sports CEC has not been supportive of the clubs.
Further, branch delegates have claimed that even the governors harassing then to support Hussein don’t involve them even when they organise politically instigated tournaments.
The primary objective Hussein has been using this ploy is to seek the votes of the delegates. Hussein has tried using the governors to force the delegates into voting for him and his team to no avail. He tried this tactic in Nyanza, Rift Valley and Coast while similar attempts in Nairobi flopped. He recently shuttled to the coast region seeking to use the same tactics to use the governors to coerce the elected branch officials and voting clubs on voting for him. Before the county elections, Hussein reportedly supplied a coast governor with contacts of voting delegates for them to be instructed to vote for team fresh candidates but when the vote was called, his candidate still lost.
Hussein has exhibited opportunistic tendency where he has reportedly been going at tournaments organized by governors and members of parliament seeking to display his banners and use the platforms to sell his agenda but these efforts have failed from the onset. Insiders say that he tries using such opportunities to advance his selfish agenda without having to pay the cost knowing he has the opportunity to access football stakeholders who have already been brought together.
