Langata member of the National Assembly Felix ‘Jalango’ Odiwuor has been diverting funds meant for sports in the constituency into private hospitality business as he denies sportsmen and women from his area a chance for sports development.

According to impeccable sources, Jalang’o has been organising a football tournament which does not end while he allegedly diverts money meant for the tournament as well as other sports infrastructure development to his restaurant in the city.

“The MP never does anything to support sports apart from the tournament he did last season and it never ended. He takes players to his private hotel and uses tournament allocation to pay bills there. The only this he did with the last tournament was buying uniforms,” said one of our sources who spoke on a condition of anonymity said.

“It is not the first tine, Jalango has been speaking about football but does nothing to support sports. A person who organises a tournament, takes meetings at the restaurant he owns and pays himself hefty allowances while teams there struggle even to pay leagues affiliation fees and transport to matches. It is a huge shame yet he is now all over speaking about football,” he added.

Langata, which has many football teams has not had a single pitch renovated by the NG-CDF but the sports budget is always diverted to other matters leaving sports in doldrums.

There have been claims that the MP uses more sports allocated money in clandestine personal projects done at his private restaurant at the expense of sports development.

“We wonder why our MP is now talking about football yet he does not support football in Langata. He did a tournament last year and it never ended. This tournament, after buying the uniforms, there were many meetings held at his restaurant and he was paying bills with the tournament money as well as paying himself huge allowances. This is conflict of interest and should not be allowed because, we have not seen the MP upgrade any sports fields or support teams in the constituency,” another source said.

Several football stakeholders from the tournament have also claimed that Jalango has been issuing fake equipment while literary Langata has no sports development under his watch since he was elected and have now demanded that money meant to support sports should not be diverted into private business and other clandestine engagements.
