FKF referees committee chairman Amwayi in hot soup over 209,000 branch embezzlement

The chairman of the Football Kenya Federation referees committee Caleb Amwayi faces arrest following allegations of irregular withdrawal of funds from the FKF Bungoma branch bank accounts.

According to records, Amwayi, who is currently the Western region FKF National Executive Committee member as well as the referees committee chairman is accused of withdrawing over Ksh. 209,000 from the Bungoma branch accounts soon after his election as NEC member without the authorisation of the new branch officials.

Amwayi who was the FKF Bungoma branch secretary and was suspended prior to the elections before he won the Western NEC seat under the Hussein Mohammed led team fresh in the last elections.

Further, upon his appointment to head the referees committee at the national level, Amwayi allegedly reappointed referees who had been suspended by the previous regime for incompetence and various match manipulation offenses in a move that has been widely criticized as abetting match fixing.

It is alleged that Amwayi has in the past used his position to solicit for sexual favours from budding female referees and a number of the whistle blowers have gotten promotion to higher leagues due to the exploitation and manipulation carried out by Amwayi.

The current Bungoma branch secretary Ezekiel Murani through Wanyonyi, Rono and Associates law firm has demanded that Amwayi convenes an urgent meeting to make a clarity on the purpose of the withdrawals.

Amwayi is accused of withdrawing over Ksh. 209,000 between October 16, 2024 before the FKF elections and January 21, 2025 from the FKF Bungoma branch Family Bank account at Bungoma branch.
