Dr. Mtumbuka promises to UTM’s financial sustainability if given the mantle on Nov. 17

One of the UTM Party presidential aspirants, Dr. Matthews Chinombo Mtumbuka, has assured delegates that, if given the mantle at the party’s convention on November 17, 2024, he will strive to build the party’s financial sustainability.

Mtumbuka added that his leadership will solidify unity in UTM in addition to expanding and optimizing the party’s grassroots structures.

“I will leverage our appeal to the youth to make it the number one biggest party at the 2025 national elections at all levels. This will ensure that we sustain the SKC legacy that our Founding President the Late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima left with us,” he said.

The sentiments are contained in a speech he delivered when he presented his nomination papers last week.

Dr. Mtumbuka thanked the party’s governors for giving him prior support as he sought nominations from the regions, observing that within two months since they availed the MCM [Matthews Chinombo Mtumbuka] brand and candidature, Malawians have showed interest in and follow politics.

“Importantly, we have made all UTM members fully know and understand what I bring to the party and nation as an aspiring president. To my fans, supporters, volunteers, campaigners, main media and social media teams, I have no words to say to you to thank you enough. Like me, you work without stopping, we will not stop until 17 November 2024, and we shall work again without stopping until September 2025 and without stopping for five years thereafter to 2030 as a government,” he said.

But Mtumbuka cautioned the delegates against being biased by money when making the decision during the convention day.

“When making the decision, look at what our party and country need. We need the best possible leadership. And I believe that we need a CEO type of a leader that can fix this country and its economy that has failed for decades. We need freshness, new thinking and new talent. And that is what I bring to the table. Secondly, we all know that other big parties have big interest in happenings of our party since we lost our leader. Delegates, please protect our party from ‘vultures.’ Please keep the party in trusted, safe and loyal hands. Let us not regret tomorrow. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he said.
