The Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) celebrated its 12th graduation ceremony today at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, honoring 358 graduates, 60% of whom are female. The event was graced by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, accompanied by First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera, Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, Minister of Mining Monica Chang’anamuno, Secretary for Education Associate Professor Mangani Chilala Katundu, and other senior government officials.

A highlight of the ceremony was a heartfelt moment when President Chakwera received a portrait from one of the graduates as a token of appreciation for his presence. In his address, the President celebrated the achievements of the graduates, emphasizing the importance of education as a foundation for future opportunities.

“You have achieved a significant milestone, but remember, no level of academic achievement can protect you from the temptation to misuse authority. For that, you need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. As you embark on your journey into the world, challenges will arise, but your inner strength is more potent than any wealth or power,” President Chakwera stated.

He urged the graduates to strive for meaningful impact, fight against corruption, and embrace their identities as educated patriots. His call to action encouraged them to pursue excellence and leave a lasting legacy in their communities.

During the event, Reverend Benito Chisamba, President of the Malawi Assemblies of God, was conferred the Chancellorship of MAGU. In his remarks, Reverend Chisamba highlighted the urgent need to revitalize the economy and urged graduates to apply their knowledge creatively in the real world, advocating for the importance of lifelong learning.

Reverend Dr. Enson M. Lwesya, Vice Chancellor of MAGU, expressed confidence in the graduates’ potential to transform the nation and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to delivering quality education by engaging with both local and global stakeholders.

As the graduates embark on their new journeys, the emphasis remains clear: education is a powerful tool for change and service to the nation.
