Director of Research in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Ronald Chanthunya, has dismissed as misguided and misleading findings of the Afrobarometer survey, arguing that the data used was biased towards semi-urban areas.

In its findings, Afrobarometer predicted that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will win the September 16, 2025, General Elections by 43 percent, followed by MCP at 29 percent while UTM was pegged at 7 percent.

Chanthunya: Chakwera will carry the day no matter what!

But speaking in Balaka on Sunday, Chanthunya laughed off the results, saying they are misguided as well as misleading.

He wondered how Malawians would trust results of a survey whose methodology involves face-to-face interviews with a nationally representative sample of citizens, covering both urban and rural areas.

At this point, Chanthunya assured MCP supporters that the party is poised to win the September 16, 2025 election by a wide margin, citing the strong support from rural areas.

Chanthunya, who met his constituency committee where he also announced his candidacy for MP in Balaka, expressed optimism about President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s chances of winning the election, highlighting his pragmatic leadership.

Meanwhile, Chanthunya has distributed campaign materials outlining the achievements of the Chakwera administration.
