Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the First Lady have expressed sadness with the passing of celebrated music icon Soldier Lucius Banda.
Soldier Lucius Banda, as he was fondly called by his fans, died at a clinic in South Africa where he went to receive treatment for his kidney failure problem.
Until his death, Banda was President Chakwera’s Advisor on Youth and Arts.
In their condolence message, the First Couple said it was saddened with the musician’s death.
The First Couple acknowledged that Banda’s political activism through music that captured our hopes and dreams, especially during the fight for democracy, helped in shaping the Malawi nation, giving voice to the voiceless and challenging injustices.
“Lucius’ legacy as a champion of the oppressed and a beacon of hope will forever inspire us. His contributions to our culture and governance, including his service as a Member of Parliament, will be cherished and remembered,” said the First Couple.
Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in following Lucius Banda’s demise.
