Kafandikhale Mandevana, the legislator for Nsanje Central Constituency, has raised alarm over the dysfunctional state of the mortuary at Nsanje District Hospital.

Mandevana expressed deep concern over the situation, citing the difficulties and challenges faced by families who are unable to properly preserve the bodies of their deceased loved ones due to the non-operational mortuary.

The lawmaker’s concerns were heightened as reports emerged of families having to prematurely collect the bodies of their relatives without being able to make adequate funeral arrangements, disrupting the grieving process.

The gravity of the situation prompted Deputy Minister of Health, Amina Daudi, to visit the hospital on Friday to assess the extent of the issue firsthand.

Daudi, upon visiting the facility, urged the hospital authorities to urgently address the problem and ensure that the mortuary becomes fully functional once again to alleviate the distress faced by bereaved families in the community.

Mandevana emphasized the importance of a functioning mortuary in upholding dignity and respect for the deceased while providing necessary support to grieving families during their time of loss.
